That wasn’t an optical illusion… My guess is that the cards have lots of holes them (all the way through much like one-way vision decals you see on the backs of vans and shop windows), they are made out of some sort of plastic with colour injected on either side to make the “pixels” of the desired image. When he brings it closer to the camera, it goes under a shadow so no light is hitting the plastic and reflecting the colour. When he pulls it away from the camera, it goes back under the light and the colours are revealed again.

  2. I have these cards. Honestly, they are shit to play, because they are not colored traditional spades/clubs are black and diamonds/hearts are red. Instead of, clubs are green, hearts are red/
    , diamonds are blue and spades are black
